February 26 is Tell a Fairy Tale Day!
We’ll celebrate by reading The Three Billy Goats (Liza Charlesworth/Ian Smith) and The Three Billy Goats Fluff (Rachael Mortimer/Liz Pichon).
Of course, we’ll incorporate SEL by discussing what the characters could have done differently. We’ll also create a Venn diagram so we can compare and contrast the two stories.
Our celebration also includes a collaborative activity. Here’s what I’ll do….
- Place two student chairs face to face with about 1 1/2 feet between the two chairs.
- Pair kids and have each pair head to a pair of chairs.
- Explain to the kids that they are supposed to find a way to get a billy goat from one chair to the other chair using marshamallows and toothpicks. Note: I don’t use the word bridge since that would lead them to making a bridge. I want to see what they will come up with together.
Be sure to provide plenty of marshmallows and a lot of toothpicks, and get ready to see some imaginative (and tasty) engineering!
