It can be challenging to bring cooking into your classroom. But, it’s not impossible! It’s important for kids to be involved in cooking.
According to an article in Portland Lifestyle & Family, the benefits include:
- appreciation for real ingredients
- broadening the palate
- learning the value of planning
- practicing good timing
- building math skills
- seeing chemistry in action
- developing confidence in kitchen
- appreciating the chef
- time to talk
- helping out feels good
I’d like to add that creating hands-on, gooey, mess-making and delicious treats is absolutely the best!

And, speaking of summer camp….
We’ve created a recipe for fun: equal parts sticky and yummy. In our Ooey Gooey Kitchen camp, we’ll use STEAM-based processes to make delicious gooey bars and pudding creations. And bring in the art part of our brains for decorating. We’ll also learn to use a variety of kitchen tools. Leftovers? We’ll see.
