National Lollipop Day, July 20.

There’s something special about lollipops. We are definitely connected by this sweet treat.

How long have lollipops been around? Amazingly, culinary historians believe lollipops have been around since the prehistoric era. Humans ate their version of lollipops as honey on a stick.

And while we don’t know with certainty how the modern-day lollipop was invented, American candy store owner George Smith came up with the name in the early 1900s. He turned the name of his favorite racehorse, Lolly Pop, into the name of the sweet treat we know and love.

I’m heading over to so we can celebrate National Lollipop Day in a big way. Childhood favorites include Charms, Blow Pops, Tootsie Pops, Astro Pops, B-B Bats, Tiger Pops, Chupa Chups, Dum Dums and Saf-T-Pops. You’ll be amazed by the number of lollipops they offer, and you’ll definitely enjoy a trip down memory lane.

On National Lollipop Day – July 20 – we’ll be making Jolly Rancher lollipops. I found a great tutorial on YouTube by Cookies Cupcakes and Cardio.

We’ll also take the time to sit down and enjoy our tasty confections. And our sweet connections.
